When you are choosing flowers for a casket, begin with the person you are remembering. A favorite garden flower, a familiar color or a simple combination of roses and greenery can give the design a personal starting point. The red roses pictured here suggest one direction; you can bring a different palette to the conversation.

A casket spray rests across the lid. Its outline, depth and length need to make sense with the casket and the way the service will be arranged. Share a photograph or dimensions if you have them. You do not need to work out the finished design before speaking with Claudia.

Plan the coverage with the family.

Tell us whether the casket will be open or closed, and which area needs to remain clear. Terms such as half-couch and full-couch may come up when discussing coverage; the useful detail is the actual space the flowers can occupy. Ask the funeral director to confirm that space and any placement requirements.

If more than one relative is helping, choose a person to gather the family’s preferences. Include any smaller floral accents, personal objects or other tributes being considered so they can be discussed together. A coordinated palette can connect the casket flowers to a standing spray or wreath without making every arrangement identical.

Bring the practical details into the conversation.

Share the service date, venue and contact person, along with your budget and preferred flowers. Mention any movement between the visitation, ceremony and another location. Placement, handling and timing need to be confirmed for the particular request.

For a card or ribbon, collect the exact names and wording you want to include. If you are unsure about a detail, say so. Claudia can help you identify the floral decisions to discuss while the family and funeral director confirm the service arrangements.

Tell Claudia about the flowers you have in mind.

Share the service date, casket details and a color or flower that feels personal.
